African - American Man with Guitar
This is a fragment of 8x10 photo showing an African-American man with a guitar, possibly from the 1930s. There was another fragment, now lost, of a Caucasian man wearing an old-style baseball cap, possibly with logo. He was holding a banjo or ukulele. Because it was 8x10, I suspect this might have been a publicity photo, and that this duo may have been professional musicians, or aspiring professionals. Background shows stacked cord wood and an apple tree, possibly rural or non-urban setting. The white fellow, as I remember, was early 20s in age, fair-skinned, possibly red-head, with pointed chin.

George Lawrence Cummings was born to George Washington Cummings (1850 or 53 - 1926) and Mary Catherine Derosia (1882 - 1969) in Three Mile Bay New York. He had siblings Gladys Mae, Hattie Margaret, and Alec J. Cummings, and they were all raised in Lyme New York.
George Cummings married Henrietta J Bergh (1911 - 1987) on May 10, 1930 in Watertown, New York, and they had children Vivian E. Bergh, Barbara Jean, Betty Gwendolyn and George Nelson Cummings.
When he was in his 20's, George was a laborer in a freight house. In his 40's, he was a driver of an oil truck for an oil and gas company. He continued to reside in Watertown until his death in 1986.
