Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" Cloud Born: 6/18/1822 was a woman who was raised by her father mining gold in the east.
She married Peter Wimmer (assistant to John Marshall at Sutter's Mill, CA)
Jan. 24 1848 Peter Wimmer and John Marshall spotted a nugget. Not knowing what it was exactly they took it to Peter's wife Jennie.
Jennie, knowing how to tell whether it was gold or not, tested the nugget and declared it as gold.
John Marshall gave the nugget to Jennie and deemed it her discovery.
Jennie sold the nugget to a collector after her husband died. The nugget has been passed down
in the collectors family.
Meanwhile John Marshall was given credit for the discovery and the rest is history.
