He joined the police force in 1872 and retired in 1902. Amelia married John Styles, an engineer from Ferntree Gully on 16 June 1891 at St Monica's Roman Catholic Church Yarraville. Their first son John Lawrence was born in 1892. Grace was born in 1894. Joseph was born in 1895 at Prahan (died 1946), Henry born 1896, and Frank born 1897. I am told he died in 1918 in France in the First World War but can't find a record. Amelia was still alive and living in Caulfield when Joseph died of TB in 1946. He married Monica Murray and had four children.

Bernie Styles, a prominent extras casting director in the New York film industry, died on Wednesday at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif., from natural causes. He was 99.
Styles was born in 1918 in New York City, and spent the majority of his career working in the city for such filmmakers as Howard W. Koch, Arthur Hiller, Woody Allen, Norman Lear, Bobby Greenhut, Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, and others.
Styles began his career pursuing acting in the 1960s, and worked in nightclubs and restaurants to support his aspirations. He eventually began his extras casting career with Koch on the 1962 film “The Manchurian Candidate.” His last casting job was working with Koch’s son, Hawk Koch, on 1993’s “Silver.”
“Bernie was a real Damon Runyon character,” Hawk said. “He wasn’t just the extras casting director. When and if you needed help with anything or anybody in the Apple, Bernie could and would make it happen. His knowledge and passion for movies was unparalleled.”
Funeral services will be held at Desert Memorial Park cemetery in Cathedral City, Calif., on Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Jhn Clinton Styles was born at Maidstone, Kent, England in 1764 went to sea at age 11 According to family notes of Daughter Isabelle Styles Lewis at Belvidere, Boone Co.,Il.1895) He was a Marine on board and trained to do all jobs. he went to N.America sometime during the Revolution and first shows up on Record in Orange Co., N.Y. in 1810. Marries Catherine McDonnell and has Daughter Matilda Styles in Fishkill or Coxsackie, N.Y. in 1818. Sometime during War Of 1812 he becomes American and Enlists in American Navy as a Sargent under Gen'l Macombs' 35th Reg.(records have not been found when family applied for Pension) He moved to St. Lawerence Co.,N.Y. in 1820's to Morristown, St.Lawerence Co.,N.Y. was a Shoemaker. He had a large family consisting of John C. Styles, Jr., William, Daniel, Matilda, Martha, Nancy, Isabella -youngest b. 1833 and may be more children earlier by potentially other marriages. He live in St.Lawerence Co. all his life last at Edwardsville on Black lake north shore. 1860 Census listed him as 96 and a Shoemaker. His children mostly moved to Boone Co.,Il. in the 1840's and 50's at Russellile, Boone Co.,Il. He died 1866 and is buried at the top hill right near a large White pine Tree like ones used for Ships Masts must be at least 140 years old maybe planted when he died. Marker is worn and hard to read, in 1993 took picture of said marker and location to tree. looking for any written materil or diaries of Styles Family in St.lawerence co.,N.Y.
