Including 14 classmates and staff members photographs all pictured together including Bessie SNYDER RABER. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Bessie and her family:
Bessie Eldora SNYDER was b. 21 Dec 1893 in Silver Lake, IN to parents Edgar P. SNYDER (1871-1923) and Rose B. DECKER (1874-1944). Bessie was one of 5 children born to this couple including Hugh Clifton; Bessie Eldora; Paul Bryan; Maxine; and James SNYDER, all born between 1892 and 1906. Bessie married Dora Francis RABER (1891-1996) on 17 Jun 1916 in Tippecanoe, IN and they had 6 children including James Henry; Charles Edgar, Betty June; Robert Richard; Martha Jean; and Jerry Lewis RABER, all born between 1917 and 1934.
Bessie died on 7 Jul 1978 in Logansport, IN and is buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake, IN.

Melinda Renee Synder was born to Jerry and Geretha Vest Snyder of Cincinnati and she had a brother Kevin. She had a promising life - she was Homecoming Queen, was particularly gifted vocally - making the All-State Honors Chorus -, was a Winthrop University graduate and worked as a teacher's aide at Northside Elementary School in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Melinda's death was the focus of an Investigative Discovery Channel's "Next Door" 2016 episode titled "The Key to Murder". She was assaulted and then murdered by Edward 'Ed' Cronell inside a home she had rented just a few days before in 1990.
After a night of heavy drinking and attending a swingers party, the murderer used his key to Melinda's home at 1981 Pine Valley Road. As a real estate agent, he had a key to the house and easy access to perform the crime. Her body was found at 4 a.m in her bed, half-naked, by her housemate who called 911 after hearing a gunshot. Melinda had been shot in the head with a .22-caliber pistol.
Detectives had a challenge identifying the perpetrator since only semen and a few eye witnesses' identification of the get-away vehicle that sped away after the gunshots were heard by neighbors, were available. The car proved to be the actual 'smoking gun' as it was recognized by the neighbors as being a local real estate agent's vehicle.
While evidence was persuasive, Ed Cronell wasn't officially charged for the offense until 1992 when the South Carolina Supreme Court mandated that he willingly provide a DNA sample. This was the first time that the State made such a ruling in regards to DNA evidence.
In 1994, Edward Cronell was found guilty and was sentenced to two life terms in prison + 30 years for the sex crime. He currently is incarcerated at the Broad River Correctional Institute in Columbia, South Carolina.
This case received a significant amount of attention from the media - see: 1990 Rock Hill murder on national TV show, and various appeals have been denied. It has been ten years now since Sam’s death, and I still miss him as much as I did after he died. Sam was a profoundly unique soul- I often told him he didn’t really live in the same world as the rest of us. He had great ideas that sounded crazy to most people, but he would always manage to surprise us all by really bringing them to life. My favorite memories of Sam are of him in nature. He always seemed peaceful when we hiked far out of civilization’s grasp. He somehow got me to the top of pinnacle peak despite an extreme fear of heights because I truly trusted he’d never let anything hurt me. He was not perfect, and caused a lot of people pain, but he was a fundamentally good man. He experienced more on this earth in 26 years than most of us will in a lifetime.
Sam’s love and friendship changed me as a person, and he will remain a cherished part of my life always.

Velma had blonde hair and blue eyes. She was born and raised in Nebraska. She was a Lutheran. She contracted the measles when she was 9 years old which caused her to lose almost all of her hearing. She had only 10 percent hearing in one ear and always had to wear a hearing aid. She was an artist. She painted beautiful oil paintings mostly of bouquets, landscapes, fruits and ocean scenes.
She was a great cook too!
She met her Husband to be Merland Charles Hutchison at a town hall dance in Nebraska when she was a young woman. They married when she was 18 years old right after High School Graduation around 1938. They moved to El Cajon, California. They had three Daughters together. Sandra in 1940, Sylvia Jean in 1943 and Teddy Jane in 1945. Around 1948 my Grandparents converted from their Lutheran faith to the Jehovah's witnesses faith.
I am Sylvia Jeans Daughter Athena. I spent a lot of time with my Grandma in summers and weekends at both homes she and Grandpa had in Buena Park, California and Clearbrook, Minnesota.
She was a wonderful loving Grandma. I love and miss her immensely! I am her Granddaughter Athena Nicole Jackson Bromaghin.
