Hatfield McCoy feud, KY & WV
The Hatfield McCoy feud lasted from 1863 until 1891 in West Virginia and Kentucky between two of the most infamous U.S. families; the Hatfields & the McCoys.
The Hatfield family was led by William Anderson Hatfield, nicknamed the "Devil Anse", and Randolph McCoy, aka "Ole Ran'l", led the McCoy family which emigrated from Ireland. The decades long family feud between the 'haves' (the Hatfields) and the 'have-nots' (the McCoys) began when Asa Harmon McCoy was murdered by "Devil Anse" Hatfield on January 7th, 1865. "Devil Anse" was evidently extremely upset that Asa had fought for the Union during the U.S. Civil War as the Harfield family had predominately fought for the Confederacy.

Tolbert Ira Simpkins was born on April 12, 1922 in Logan County, West Virginia, USA to parents Henry John Mounts Simpkins (1885-1954) and Arminta "Minnie" Ellis (1886-1951). He had siblings Lydia (Simpkins) Collins (1908-1961), Arnold Henry Simpkins (1910-1981), Martha Simpkins (1912-1988), Garland G Simpkins (1914-1996), Bayk Simpkins (1919-), Boyd Harding Simpkins (1919-1952), Harry Simpkins (1925-1994), and Cebert Martin Simpkins (1928-1967).
At the time of his registration for the draft on June 30, 1942, in Jolo, McDowell, West Virginia, Tolbert Simpkins was 20 years old and listed himself as the head of the household. He was employed by W H Hatfield and resided in Jolo, West Virginia.
He enlisted in the United States Army on November 4, 1942, in Huntington, West Virginia. At the time of his enlistment, he was a citizen and single without dependents. Tolbert was a WWll veteran and served as a Private First Class in the US Army. In civilian life, he worked as a coal miner.
On September 28, 1951 he married Audrey Francis Blevins (1939–2015) in Dickenson, Virginia, USA. They had seven children; four boys including Michael Dean and Andy Ray as well as three girls.
He was a quiet man in general who liked to fish and listen to bluegrass music.
