Summary

One of my sisters, now passed on, did a thesis on the origins if our surname. It came in into being plus or minus the year 1100 C E , when our ancestor Guy was given an official coat of arms, land, a castle, and the surname LaSherif or LaSheriff, which appeared to bring with it the task of being sheriff. This was from William rhe Conqueror. We have the hand-drawn crest hanging in the wall still. But there are other stories that claim their way is what happened.
