Shipp Last Name History & Origin
AddSummary
a bit sketchy and nary of any consistent chronology worth the mention, but, a brief bit on things found a;long the way.
Once upon a time there was a very zealous American named Ralph Shipp, who wrote a book and stated that anyone whos name is Shipp, is of the German! err uh, excuse me, sir, so says I, and so says, a plethora of well peeved good Shipp women, who then commanded of their Shipp men, to "submit a sample of your Shipp essence, in the test tube,m buddy!" and being good Shipp men, before they ran and hid, they succumbed and submitted, Thus born, was, the Shipp DNA project.
This so they could rub it in ol Ralphies face that not every decent ra[pscallion outlaw type had to be German, if any atall.
The results came back and it had our common genetic marker tying in with the R1B1 haplogrouping, Alpha 2, which is Celtic, as opposed to Alpha 1, which is Norwegian. This is starting to make sense, as to why theres a horde of us down in Australia, this being 3 hots and a cot in a penal community, the free hotel, etc.
But, back to me, us, ourselves, we'uns, us'ns, etc. skipping ahead, we find our earliest fellow, Big Deddy, if ye will, as Ship(p)man in Suffolk England, miles away from his location is an island callled Shipee Island, but, i dont believe its yo do with us, as no Shippman is an island. except me and even im not, not yet. Ok, so now, stepping back in time, as this fellas son, i believe, found his way on to a boat, a Ship, which sailed for Virginia, but, an earlier data base of our fine men has the only place ive ever seen both Shipman and Shipp together, and it links in with an old story I heard ages ago by my Grandad, Joe I shipp, that we originated in Ireland, around the west coast, Kerry Claire Tipperary, and had been accused or convicted of stealing pigs thus had to boogie on outways, may as well go to England, this ties in well, with the aforemntioned documentation of Ship(P)man Shipp, whiich these two names are side by side in the Celtic Travellers Database, meaning yes, we were Gypsies, Gypo, Knackers, Pikeys, Traveler Folk, pig thieves, cow pilferers, moonshioners, probably affable type fellas if you coulld speak Shelta Gaelic. I had even pondered if Shipman wasnt a job title surname as fleeing Ireland to england by boat seemed speedy and thwarting of officials on the prowl, possibly serving for fare as a midshipman, but lets not create myth here. Then hell came to suffolk, and it was a veritable sphagetti western of seafarers blues all teh way to Virginia where younger male lienage would fight on Kings mountain and later relocate to georgia during the cherokee land grants and firtehrmore, honroably serve our great n grand Rebel Army, John C Jackson Shipp Co K 60th Ga. inf CSA Fredricksburg and the Wilderness, received a Confederate disability pension of 50$ per month for injuries sustained, loss of use of one arm.
Now I realize that I put all this in the wrong block/section. My apologies.
I wish i could be more definitive for you in simply saying yes were English or Irish, I guess we are both, atleast were not German, Ralph! For the sake of dropping a name or two for validation, our line is directly connected to all the Shipps, located throughout South, predominantly agrarian and military affiliated, and apparently not fond of the yankee dialect or whatever they call it. This including John Wesley Shipp / actor, Virginia, Capt William T Shipp CSA artillery Captain and later Judge and senator for North Carolina, Willie Ewan Shipp, Rough rider, KIA San Juan Cuba, Harry Shipp Truman, grandson of Anderson Shipp, Patty Shipp mother of Jennifer Love Hewitt ' actress, colin shipp/ writer california?
Please pardon my typos, its late, im an early bird, way too early to be so not so early enough, the coffee dont work anymore, not for semi illiterate and garmmatically challenged types like yours truly.
Please feelfree to comment and ask of me as you wish, be patient as i am often very busy but will get back to you respectfully and hopefully with your good graces.
ian McLennon Shipp / Georgia, Savannah, Seattle, soon to be Gulfport Mississippi.
