Kitty came from a large family, her parents were Charles Shelley and Catherine Kelly, She had a son, Alfred Charles Shelley in 1910 in Carlton and married Vane Sheldon Williams in 1913 after which they had a son Vane Patrick Sheldon Williams on the 24 November 1913. Alfred was raised by his grandparents in Stawell, Victoria, Australia and passed away in 1999 in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia, Vane Patrick passed away in 1968 in Cowes, Victoria, Australia. It is unknown whether the boys ever knew each other.

A naturalized U.S. citizen, Carole stayed busy on all fronts in the entertainment industry in films, television and, of course, the live stage. Her Broadway credits include "The Odd Couple" (her Broadway debut) playing the hilarious Gwendolyn Pigeon, the intended blind date for the hapless Felix, a role she reprised for the film The Odd Couple (1968) and in the later television series (The Odd Couple (1970).
