I got a letter from you today. It's Monday. You asked about Emil. I met him by a blind date. Mildred Stanger (girl next door on Ranney St. ) had made plans for her boyfriend to bring a guy to date her cousin & they were all going roller skating at Summit Beach. At the last minuet her cousin couldn't go. It was too late to stop the guys from coming. Mildred ask me if I could go ---- I was 15 & never been on a date in a car. I had to beg & beg dad to let me go. He gave in but I had to be in by 11P.M. Skating was over at 10P.M. After that we went skating every Sun. Emil could sure skate & he taught me to dance on skates. it got serious between us --- then he HAD to go into the army. Drafted. Dad didn't have a car so Emil gave me his. I was 16 by now. Two years passed. I was working at Kingsbury ( War Plant N. of here.Winamac)-------(Family had moved from Ohio to Indiana) He got leave & came here to visit. I went back with him & we were married at camp. Six weeks later they were told to take their wives home, as they were going to be shipped over seas. We were married May 28, 1944 & he was killed Nov. 29, 1944. He was so good to me. I met him at the age of 15, married him at 18 years of age. (married 6 months) We had no children. Sometimes I wish we had.
Yes, Emil got the Purple Heart, The Bronze Medal and the Silver Star.
