Emily Anne (Shand) Mcdonald of Nhill, Hindmarsh Shire County, VIC Australia was born in 1835 in Geelong, Greater Geelong City County, and died at age 80 years old in 1916 in Nhill, Hindmarsh Shire County.

Marioara Shand was born in Yugoslavia, a native of Sweden, and also lived in Hanford California and Ranchos de Taos New Mexico. Mariora was married to Michael Shand. Mike and Marioara met when he was a strike officer at Bahrain in the Middle East. She was an airline attendant for Gulf Airlines, and had been flying in and out of Arab countries. Their relationship grew and they married in 1990. Michael Shand was a Navy pilot who was hit by a drunk driver, and died as the result of the traffic accident on January 31, 1996. The other driver, Deral Hasting Fike II, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol and was sentenced to 16 months in Wasco State Prison in California followed by 3 years parole. In The Hanford Sentinel published in Hanford California on September 12th 1996, Marioara is quoted as saying after the sentence: "I'm not pleased but I think even someone like the defendant can learn and my wish is that he volunteers to all local schools and tells them what can happen when you drink and drive." Both parties also agreed no court action could bring Michael Shand back to life. Marioara went on to say: "No punishment is harsh enough for what he did because he (Fike) has the privilege of life. He took someone's life. I will never see my husband again." she said, "Loneliness and emptiness are my constant companions now. Who speaks for the dead, it should be you judge." This wasn't the first challenge that Marioara faced. In 1992, Mike was medevacked off the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and kept on medical hold following a 6 hour operation at Bethesda Naval Medical Center. He was released after the operation and discovered a brain fungus similar to Valley fever. After several months of medical treatment, Michael Shand returned to his Squadron in March 1994. They both were looking forward to starting a family. A little over 6 years after her husband's murder, Marioara was raped and murdered by the 17 yr old grandson of her landlords. Nathaniel Duran was the nextdoor neighbor who had assisted Marioara with moving into her new apartment that she had rented only a week earlier from his grandmother. According to "Monsters & Critics" which covered "Murder Comes Home": In 2003 a jury trial convicted Nathaniel Duran of murder and sentenced him to life in prison plus an additional ten and a half years. After sentencing, he ripped off his shirt and shouted obscenities in the courtroom. He died in prison in 2008 at 23 after hanging himself with a bedsheet in a maximum-security prison cell. In October of 2007, he had filed a civil suit against New Mexico State Penitentiary complaining about his confinement conditions.
