Harton Singer Semple was born to Richard Hollyday Semple (born 1888) and Hester Harton Singer (1887 - 1952). His father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. He had a sister, Brown H. Semple, and a brother, Richard Hollyday Semple Jr. Harton Semple married Phyllis Alberta Keister (1921 - 2009 on May `17, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. They had four children: three daughters and one son. A veteran of World War II, Harton enlisted on February 12, 1943 and was discharged as an officer on August 30, 1945.
