My gr. grandfather Louis Schaefer came to the US in 1865 at the age of 15. Quite young to be traveling so far from home. I have found a family of Schaefers on boardthe Ferdinand in 1865 but it is too light to read. maybe the whole family came. He came from Schleiswig Holstein in Germany, don't know the village. My gr. grandmother Christina Nelson also came to the US from Germany in 1868 or 69. They were married around that time. They had 10 children , 7 of whom survived. My grandmother Christie was born in the uS in Brooklyn in 1872. She married my grandfather August Dietrich Becker in the late 1880's in Brooklyn. My grandfather worked for my Great Grandfather louis in an iron foundry he owned and operated with two of his sons. The rest of my gr grandfathers sons were Louis, Charles, George, Gottfried, Bernard and Heinrich. i have been searching for any information on any of them that anyone can help me with. I amd sure they must have family living someplace in the USA. They lived in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Harlem NY as youngsters. George stayed on living in Ridgewood Queens New York./ Would love to have some contact with someone.
