This is a photo taken about 1862. She looks to be about 14 years old to me.
The original photo had a crease in the upper right. In getting it ready to put on our family website, my husband, Chuck Nelson, was able to correct the crease.

Katherine "Kit" and Philip Runser, youngest children of Phillip Jacob Runser and Clara Ketchum Runser. They had a homestead in Foxboro, Wisconsin in the early 1900s. This photo was probably taken shortly after Kit was fitted with her first pair of spectacles, hence the somber look on her usually smiling face.

Philip Jacob Runser
P J Runser was born in France in 1845 and came to America with his family while still an infant. He married Caroline Clarissa Ketchum in 1871. They had a homestead in South Dakota and raised a family of 8 children there. They eventually moved to Foxboro, WI where Philip died in 1921, a year after his wife succumbed to influenza. They are buried in the Summit Cemetery at Foxboro.

Katherine "Kit" Runser would have been about 15 years old in this photo. She was the youngest child of Philip and Clara Runser. She was born in SD. The family moved to Minnesota and then northern WI about this time. Her diary tells of her longing to be back with her friends in South Dakota.
