My father was a strong minded person that believed in service to his country and providing for his family as more than just words. He had seven overseas tours of duty in the military and was regretful that he had to be separated from his Wife and Children for so much of our lives.
I was already in Junior High School when he retired and he always tried to make up for lost time through camping and other family activities in order to be with us. The shame is he was in the Air Force 22.5 years and had been retired for just about the same amount of time before his passing. The one thing I remember most from my farther is family is everything, Cherish each and every moment you have with them because the dreadful day will come and regrets last a lifetime.
