Rites Today in Zion
Lutheran Church in
Horton Township
William H. Osterman, 77, died at his farm home in Ocheyedan Sunday morning after a two weeks illness. He had been in failing health for the past ten years.
Services are scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alfred Allman officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Church cemetery. The Walton Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Pall bearers are: Fred Odens, Adey Hoper, Sam O'Toole, Ernest Wellhausen, Walter Rueter, and Clifford Brunk.
Music by the choir will include the selections "Be Still My Soul" and "Heaven is My Home" with LaVera Hattendorf as organist.
William Henry Ostermann, the son of Henry Ostermann and Dorothea Mueller, was born at Maurice, Feb. 2, 1886. He was received into the Christian Church by the sacrament of Holy Baptism March 6, 1886, and he renewed his baptismal vow by the rite of confirmation April 8, 1900 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ireton.
At the age of 18, he moved with his family to Horton township where he continued to reside until the time of his death. He was united in holy wedlock with Ella Jahn, Aug. 28, 1907, and their wedded life was blessed with three children: Delbert at Ames, Edwin at home, and Thelma (Mrs. William Weidler of Ocheyedan.
He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, serving as elder and trustee on the church council. He was a willing and devoted servant to his community, serving as a director of various boards for many eyars.
Among some of the interests that Mr. Ostermann served in community affairs included the Osceola County fair board, the Osceola Co-op Oil Co. board, the Ocheyedan Co-op Elevator board and the AAA, later known as the ASC in Sibley.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Ella,his two sons, Delbert and Edwin, his one daughter, Thelma, two grandchildren, Donald Ostermann of Ames, and Peggy Weidler of Ocheyedan; one great granddaughter, Susan Osterman of Ames; three brothers, Adolph of Lucas, Kans., John of Sylvan Grove, Kans., and Alfred of Worthington; one sister, Hulda, Mrs. Frank Drunagel of Pittsburgh, Kans., 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Gus and Henry.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 31 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church at Ocheyedan for Ella Marie Ostermann, 88, who died at Colonial Manor at Lakefield, Minn. Dec. 29. The Rev. Lyle Baker officiated with burial in the church cemetery. The Walton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 7, 1884 at What Cheer, Ia., the daughter of Henry and Emma Neuman Jahn. She married William H. Ostermann at Zion Lutheran Church Aug. 28, 1907 and lived one mile from the church all her married life.
Survivors include two sons, Delbert, Ames; and Edwin of Ocheyedan; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, one daughter, Thelma (Mrs. William Weidler); three brothers and two sisters.
