Wellington Bryant was the next to last son of James Augustine Landis. NOT AUGUSTUS to the "find a grave" people who misquoted. William Howard was not his only son and Wellington had a William Howard Landis with Ruby McPherson before he was married to Beadie Riggins. (Beadie Bradley) Wellington and Beadie owned and ran the B & B Restaurant in Madison for years. William Howard Landis, the son of Wellington 'Wellie B" and Ruby was an English Major and lost a leg as a child. He graduated from Middle Tennessee University but had a hard time finding a position with his handicap. He eventually opened his own insurance business. Ruby's father was the late Rev. William Cornelius McPherson. His brother Rev. Joe McPherson was well known in Nashville as the "Preaching Postman." He baptized over 3K people in the area. It should be noted that James Augustine Landis had a son named William Howard Landis, Sr. He was born November 5, 1895. William Howard Landis, Sr.'s ONLY child (as opposed to information found on other sites) was a son named William Howard Landis, Jr. William Howard Landis, Jr. was born 3-1-1928. He was known to his parents and older relatives as "Howard Junior." William Howard Landis, Jr. also went to Middle Tennessee State University in the 1940's and got a Master's Degree in Agriculture. There are a lot of William Howard Landises in my family, including a William Howard Landis, III. All information here is accurate, including that which I did not contribute. I personally vouch for the information about William Howard Landis, Sr. (Wellington's brother born in 1895) and William Howard Landis, Jr. The latter is my father. He died 1-11-2014. Hopefully, this helps to clear up questions by other researchers about which William Landis is which.
