Civil War 1861-1865 American Civil War - George Kidd enlisted in the Kentucky (Union) 47th mounted Infantry on July 1863 at the age of 53. He died of smallpox at Covington, Kentucky on June 24, 1864 while his unit was engaged in a battle with John Hunt Morgan during his invasion of Kentucky.
George Kidd was my 3rd Great Grandfather. His oldest son Demarcus was my 2nd Great Grandfather, then his son William Ervin Kidd my 1st Great grandfather. My grandfather was Walt Seely Kidd.
George and several sons fought on opposite sides in the Civil War. A family torn apart by war.
I have proven this line extensively over the last 50 years. Cousin Mary Payne, 2nd great granddaughter of George's youngest son Newton Gaston Kidd, has also researched that branch of the family extensively.
