Edna B. Palmerton Howe
I have an old studio photograph of Edna PALMERTON which was taken at the Young Studio in Oneonta, NY in the 1880's. Edna appears to be in her teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Edna and her family:
Edna B. PALMERTON was b. 8 Sept 1872 in Tompkins or Deposit, NY to parents George William PALMERTON (1848-1927) and Josephine COOK (1850-1934). Edna was their only child and she married Grant Preston HOWE (1873-1931 son of Ralph Plumb HOWE and Sarah Maria PRESTON) in Tompkins Co., NY in 1896.
The couple had two children including Mildred Cook or Cecile HOWE (b. 1901) and Linwood or Lynwood Palmerton HOWE (b. 1910). Grant died in 1931 and Edna never remarried. Edna died Apr 1969 in Freeport, NY and is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Deposit, NY.

Julia Ward Howe (born Julia Ward May 27, 1819) wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". She was an abolitionist and while she wrote the words for the anthem, she used the music of the song "John Brown's Body". It was a popular Union song in the Civil War.
She was a abolitionist, social activist, suffragist, poet, and a member of the Society of American Friends of Russian Freedom (SAFRF).

These are not my relatives...photo found in an antique shop in Santa Cruz, CA. Written on back of photo: "Howe Family..Mrs. Howe was a Boysen". This is believed to be Johannes J. Haue/Howe and his wife, Ane Marie Boysen/Boisen...also in the photo are believed to be his son Jens 'James' Haue and wife, daughter Ane, and son Jacob Boysen Haue/Howe. Photo reunited with direct descendant in Montana 1/2010.

Drummond - Lucy Howe Baker died Sunday in St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula.
Lucy was born January 7, 1913, in Eugene, Orgeon, the youngest child of Herbert and Georgia Howe.
She received a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Oregon iun 1934 and a master's degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn., in 1941. Lucy taught sophomore English for eight years at Silverton, Ore. She married Elvin M. Baker September 11, 1942, at Ellyson Field in Pensacola, Fla. Upon Elvin's discharge from the Navy in 1945, the couple moved to Eugene for eight months. They purchased a ranch west of Drummond, where they raised cattle and horses. They sold the ranch in 1973 and moved to a ranch west of Roundup, where they raised thoroughbred horses.
In 1992, when Elvin's health was failing, they moved to the ranch of the daughter, Harriet, and her husband Calvin Mentzer.
Lucy was a life member and past president of the Drummond American Legion Auxilliary and past president of the Drummond Parent Teacher Association. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Elvin in 1997, and brother Henry in 1973.
Survivors included F. Baker and P. McCarty of Helena, D. (Baker) McLean and W. McClean, Philipsburg, and H. (Baker) Mentzer and C. Mentzer of Drummond; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Drummond community Hall with the Rev. Richard Robinson officiating.
Suggested memorials to: Drummond American Legion Auxiliary, Lower Valley Historical Society, the Drummond Volunteer Ambulance or the charity of your choice.
Jewell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
