(My Mom & Aunt says) Grandpa JOSEPH S. JENKINS never got over the teen death of his sister SALLY. His daughter PEARL ALBINA JENKINS lived to be over 90some and I talked to her many times about certain events, but there are gaps.
JOSEPH S. JENKINS m.PHEBE ELIZABETH McMURRY
(Where?)
They came from Missouri to Kansas- Oklahoma , granny remembered walking most of the way (she was around 7), they alternated wagon rides from day to day...had to stop a few times due to flooded rivers.
After settling in N Woods Co, OK they more children....(these are the ones I recall) PEARL ALBINA, GEORGE, ALICE MAY, EDNA, MOLLY, SALLY. (I kind of remember there being a BELLE also). In 1899 PEARL ALBINA JENKINS m JOHN KERLEY HOOD JR (spelling came straight from the horses wifes mouth),they had LOREN, WAYNE, DELBERT, DALE, FRANCES MARIE, GRACE KATHERINE HOOD b.1919,(hope Im not forgetting anyone). They also had a stillborn child, unnamed.
Supposedly Joseph was with his brothers (?), when they were making the Cherokee Strip Landrun, but I have no proof yet. The area they "Ran" to was just over the border, so some records may say Kiowa Ks for one thing, and Woods Co OK for others (neither being far from the homesteads). MOLLY JENKINS was BEAUTIFUL (mom is currently trying to find her photo again). She married Bert Jones nearby, and within a short time a tornado went over their farm, and they lost their house. PEARL ALBINA HOOD went to a church function as a teen and locked eyes with JOHN KERLEY HOOD Jr , she "fell in love" right then.
At one time JOHN K HOOD's brother LUKE lived near CARRIE NATION , and introduced her to the family and they all got close over time. After one of CARRIE's big smash up at Hardtner , or Kiowa KS, she went out to my families homestead to hideout. Grandma was mad cause she couldnt sleep with the singing and praying going on in the next room. Granny HOOD was a fussy budget at times...."EDNA was a poet and always walking around with her nose in a book or writing poetry instead of doing her work!"...which bothered granny HOOD, she was always a busy house worker. Her father JOHN K HOOD Jr got dropsie and died at home. My Grandma GRACE KATHERINE HOOD told me when her "papa died, she was outside, the clouds parted and sun shone down on the house , just as he died..she knew his suffering was over".
By this time PEARL A JENKINS HOOD had also lost her mother PHEBE ELIZABETH MCMURRY, and her father JOSEPH S JENKINS had remarried a younger woman named JULIA. . PEARL JENKINS HOOD eventually moved into town, ALVA OK, and her grown youngest son continued the farming for a time.
PEARL raised GRACE KATHERINE HOODS daughters in Alva OK- . Pearl died 27 Dec 1979 in Alva OK, but buried in KIOWA KS.
Questions remain, What is the middle name for JOSEPH S JENKINS MO?
DOES ANYONE HAVE JENKINS PHOTOS TO SHARE?
Who exactly were the brothers who homesteaded for Joseph??
Who where PHEBE E McMURRAY's parents ? (sp?)
Please email if you can share some more info on these people.
