He was baptized on December 31, 1837 as a Hinton. He later changed his name to John Hinton Cumper many years after arriving in Victoria, Australia but was then known locally as Jack. He went by many name variations.
Cumper worked as a sailor and a miner/mine managaer. He then immigrated to Australia and married Margaret Jane McLean (1849-1926) in 1869 in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia.
They had children together; George (1866-1923), Julia (1868-1951), Charles (1870-1930), Annie (1872-1947), Mary (1875-1916), Margaret Jane (1878-1945), James (1881-1939), John Hinton (1883-1961), Richard (1886-1944) and Alexander Cumper (1888-1970).

Amanda Hinton's Sisters
This photo was entitled "Amanda Hinton sisters," so I'm assuming Amanda isn't in the photo. I know the names of her sisters, but can not decipher which is which in the photo. I do know for sure the top/left one is Martha "Mattie" Hinton Frizzell. The others are Clarinda "Kate", Hattie, Ida Mae or Margaret "Maggie." Hoping someone out there can identifiy these girls.
