U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Missouri, in 1869, he attended the Salem Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1882 and commenced to practice law in Bolivar, Missouri. In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress, serving until 1905. He was reelected to the Sixtieth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving (1907-19). An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law in Missouri, until 1935, then retired and lived in California, until his death at age 91.

My Hamlin line comes from James Hamlin and Eliza Jane Shearer Hamlin. this is my Oregon line.
It is said that Eliza and family came to Oregon via wagon train.
James and Eliza had several childen one of which was Eliza Jane Hamlin. My line.
Eliza Jane Hamlin married Francis Marion Hodges, in Oregon.
They had several children: One my great grandmother: Polly Ann Hodges.
Polly Ann Hodges Married Wm. Thomas Anderson, Oregon
They had several children on being my gradmother: Eva Mae Hodges born in Sams Valley, Jackson Co., OR.
Eva Mae Hodges married my Grandfather Charles H. McCue in Bandon, OR.
they had my father: Kenneth Earling McCue and one other son.

My name is Nichelle Hughes daughter of Lloyd v. Hughes,son of Eugene Hughes and Blanche Pearl Brown Hughes[granny Hughes]. Eugene is the son of Annie Hughes,daughther of Wesly Hughes and Margaret Hamlin Hughes of Va. Margaret was the daughter Edward Y Hamlin and munlotto slave Dolly Scott. Edward was the son of William who was the son of John Hamlin and so on. The Hamlin,s came to the US in the 1600,s from england. Researching my family history I was amazed how large it is. Different surnames,races[black and white] and children by marriages and still growing. Maragret and Wesly started the Hughes clan and Edward Dolly started the munlotto clan. Even though some of there children married and carried on the white race. I found my ancestors to be very interesting,especially Dolly And Edward. They had 10 kids before and after the civil war. It seemed they were very much in love. I read after the war northern soldiers was going to kill Edward and Dolly begged to save his life ,stating he was the father of her children. Dolly was a member of the springfield baptist church which she loved and when Edward died left land to the church. He also left land to Dolly and her children.
