Hackney Family History & Genealogy

Our family is located in Bristol,Virginia ,24201.I want to write this family story in loving memory of Randall Hackney and his parents, my grandparents, Lacy and Jane hackney. Randall was always a very loving and giving person. He loved life very much. He was a very family oriented person and he loved his son Joshua Hackney almost more than life itself. There was only one person that Randall loved more than life or his son and that was God. There was a time in my life where I felt very alone. I mean, I know God and have always loved him, but I was going through a very nasty divorce to a man that I was with for eleven years and it was very difficult. Randall was always my favorite uncle but during this time that I really needed a shoulder to lean on, he was there for me and my children. He was the type of person who never really got sick. No flu, no viruses, hardly any sickness. During the time that I was going through my divorce, he was going through a very difficult separation himself. About six to eight months into his separation, he started feeling ill. He was living with my grandparents through his separation and they took him to the doctor at a certain local doctors office and they would tell him the same thing over and over again. "It's just a sinus infection" they said, and would put him on more antibiotics. This happened two or three times. Randall and my grandparents told the doctors over and over again that he was getting headaches that would land him in the bed for days at a time.He missed work, alot. Finally, one morning on his way to work, he was taking one of his brothers with him, they worked at the same place and road to work together often, Randall had one of his terrible headaches. He forgot where he was going and what he was doing. When they arrived at work, an ambulance had to be called. I was called by my grandparents and I went to the hospital to be with them. During his visit to the hospital, he didn't know who he was, where he was, what day it was, nothing. His doctor found a hard mass on his collar bone. It could be felt very easily and had been there for a while. Randall's hospital visit ended up lasting a week. The doctors did testing and at the end of the week, they had come to the conclusion that Randall had stage three melanoma skin cancer. it had caused the mass on his collar bone and had traveled into his spinal fluid. The doctors told him that he had six- months to live. He was forty-two years old. During his sickness, he was a fighter. He never complained, always held his head up high. Always trusted in god to see him through. I watched him suffer, terribly. Even though he suffered the way that he did, he was more concerned about his family hurting than his on self. Randall lived for seven months, then passed on. He was a fighter,a brave and true insperation and will forever and always be in our hearts. He will always be loved.

In search of Tillie or Sarah Hackney. I am at a dead end. She was supposed to have been born around 1823 in England,but I suspect she was from New Jersey. She married William Arthur Algor . In August 2004 a group of artists called Slowfall Projects held an event in St Augustines Tower in the middle of Hackney, the aim of the event was to gather stories from residents the residents of Hackney that concerned the tower. We collected a lot of stories, many of which are touching or funny, the stories are now on website created especially for them.

At the moment the artists involved are in the process of making a series of artworks based around the stories.

If anybody has any stories about St Augustines Tower or Hackney in general, we are still collecting stories.
