The first Guslin came to America during the Revolutionary war fighting for King George of England. He was what we called a Hessin Soldier they were paid soldiers and were sent after the Black Scotish Soldiers could not stop the fighting.
He came from the State of Essen in Germany and there is or was a house of Guslin with the Family Crest and all. They had a house of surfs too.
The American verson of the spelling is Gooslin what was changed by the five brothers who left Missouri after the Civil War. One of the brothers took his wife's maiden name that was Shew and Joseph Pierce kept Goslin.
The five brothers fought with William Quantrill during the war this is why they had to leave Missouri. They had camped on the Red river talked things over and turned in when morning came three of the brothers had left during the night which left two brothers they came to South Texas where they lived and died. Nothing can be found on them this far, this is word from family members.
