Hello Kathy Greenawalt, I'm looking for connections to my Grandmothers family. Celestia Agnes *Givens* married Richard Horace Featherstone - not sure of date. Grandma Celestia was called * Lessie * by Grandpa - Grandma had a sister who I always called Aunt I (short for ?? ) & brother Earl - who cared for Grandma as she needed help after my Grandfather died from Leukemia. From the little I have to go on the family Givens was not very close(??) . Just what my Dad Richard Horace Featherstone Jr. always said. Grandma & Grandpa lived in Dubach, Louisiana. I * remember * as a child hearing the family talking about being part Indigenous - at least Grandma's side, but it was never fully explained or maybe it was due to the sentiment at the time - deep south, Civil War , WW1. If any of this sounds familiar then + maybe + we are related. Hi I am part of the William Givens/Rebecca Norris family line. They are my maternal grandfather's grandparents. The family was originally from Tennessee but settled in Texas. I believe they lived in Sherman (on the Red River and in Grayson County), Dallas, and finally ended up in Galveston Texas. Rebecca was of Native American heritage. She named my greatgrandmother, Minnie Orena Givens. Orena means Laughing Water. My distant cousin, Lynn Ferguson said we are Comanche. I thought we were Cherokee but Lynn's greatgrandfather (my grandfather's uncle) taught her grandmother how to trick ride like the Comanche. This was passed down to Lynn and she now teaches kids on a reservation in Washington state how to trick ride.
I am not sure how the Givens and Norris's knew each other but I think they probably traveled together. I also believe that Rebecca had a twin brother, Robert (who lived near them) according to the 1880 census.
Well, that is about it for now. Hopefully, someone will have more information on the Norris family line. I have found a lot on the Givens side. Thanks, Kathy
