The Ex-Arthur Fiedler - 1937 Ford 1½ ton Pumper Fire Truck
For half a century, Arthur Fiedler was the conductor of the famous Boston Pops Orchestra. While the symphony orchestra specialized in light classical music, he was into heavy-duty vehicles, in particular one 1937 Ford ½ ton Pumper Fire truck.
Fiedler began recording the music of the Boston Pops in 1935, just two years prior to the Ford Company’s manufacture of this fully-equipped Pumper Fire Truck. The two were destined to meet decades later since in addition to music, it appeared Fiedler’s other fascination involved the work of firefighters. As a result of his support he was made an "Honorary Captain" of the Boston Fire Department, and his biography reports that the conductor once helped in the rescue efforts at the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston in 1942.
