Elvira (Pryor) Epps was born circa 1845 in Virginia United States. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Elvira Pryor.
Taken from findagrave: “George, called “Walsh” came with his brother, Martin C. Epps (Eppes) to Ft. McKavett, Texas. Their names are near the top of page 10 of the 1870 census for Ft. McKavett, Texas. They came to Ft. McKavett to help their brother, William Epps, who was placed in jail as he worked for “Humphy” Jackson, that had shot a Negro soldier from Ft. McKavett, who had sent a love note to his daughter. Around this time or just prior to this, exact date not found, their brother James T. Epps was killed and buried on the creek that bears his name in Sutton County. After James T. Epps’ (Eppes) service in the army on the Confederate side of the Civil War, he became a deputy sheriff for some county, likely Menard County. (Deputy Sheriff’s names are not recorded at the Archives at Austin, Texas, nor local county records.) From Ft. McKavett, George “Wash” Epps went to the Nueces Canyon Country, as this was considered an ideal place for fugitives from the law to hide out – thinking that he might be able to find the murderer of his brother, James T. Eppes. George “Wash” was too young to enter the Texas Rangers. Here in Nueces County, Wash Epps met and married Winnie Sanchez, the daughter of Mr. Sanchez (really his name was Little) and his wife Jerusia Louzoria. Winnie died in July 1904 at Uvalde, Texas. George Epps died as a result of plunging a knife into his leg while cleaning and butchering a beef. He died on his way to Ft. Clark, Texas, the nearest doctor. The exact place of where he is buried is not known today.”
Taken from findagrave: “Fannie and George Eppes, Jr. did not like to stay at home after their mother, Winnie, married William R. Webb, as he drank and mistreated them. Little George Eppes was required to do a man’s work. Little George Eppes became ill and died at the house of Granny’s daughter, “Aunt Lu”, who had carried him in her arms to her house. The location of his grave is unknown today. Fannie Eppes stayed a lot with Granny.”
Details on this site are incorrect. Lucy was not born into the Epps family. She was the daughter of George Golding Tillbrook and his wife Louisa. She married William Epps and had 9 children. They were both born in England and died in Australia so they emigrated at some stage before the birth of their first child Eliza (1879).

Captain Charles H. Epps
Captain Charles H. Epps, Captain of Richmond, Virginia Police at the time of the murder of Lillian Madison by her cousin Thomas Cluverius c. 1885.
The following is a perhaps fictionalized account of the arrest from "The Recollections OF A Virginia Newspaper Man" BY HERBERT T. EZEKIEL
Captain Charles H. Epps who, with Policeman Logan S. Robins, made the arrest, gave me quite an interesting account of that event. They arrived about sunset. Captain Epps called Cluverius to the door as he was about to sit down to supper and said to him :
"Cluverius, I have a warrant for your arrest for murder."
Had an innocent man been thus approached, his first words would have been :
"Murder, who do they say I killed?" He replied :
"Wait until I get my hat and I will go with you."
The officers, however, ate supper with the family before leaving.

Daddy Hiram T. Epps , Paratrooper
My Daddy, Hiram Thomas Epps,on the left, who as a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment,the Red Devils regiment, attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, jumped behind the German lines in France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He fought in Holland,and Belgium, and all the way to Germany and stood on the Honor Guard for Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, the Allied Supreme Commander in Frankfurt, Germany, and of course he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he had frostbite feet. He was and is my Hero, one of the great generation of freedom-defending Americans who are dying every day. God Bless them all!! The fellow in civilian clothes was my uncle by marriage, James Alfred Hammond who later served in the Navy in WWII. I was a U.S. Marine in 5th Comm. Bn, III MAF, DaNang, S.Vietnam in 1970.
