He served in the Quartermaster Corps and was admitted to military service in June 1945 and discharged in the same month from an Aid Station. The reason for his discharge was due to a non-battle injury. He sustained burns on his forearm caused by a flaming liquid (gasoline explosion or similar incident) while on a work detail.
Overall, Frederick served for approximately 2-3 years in the military before being discharged.
Eddie James Dupree was born to Newt and Nettie Dupree of Dooley, Alabama. He had older siblings Newt Jr. and Martha Rae Dupree, and a younger brother Willie. When he was 13, Eddie stated that he had completed the first grade.
In the 1950 census, Eddie was living at home with his mother who was a widow by then in McKinley Alabama along with his brothers and sister. At the time he was working as a mill hand in a saw mill.
In Season 6 (1987 -1988) of "Family Ties", episode 20, directed by Matthew Diamond and written by Burt Pretlusky, titled "The Blues Brother", there was a fictional character named "Eddie Dupree". This episode first aired on January 24, 1988, and showed character Alex encouraging the character named Eddie Dupree who was a former blues musician to come out of retirement.
