GENERATION 1
01a. PIERRE DRAGAUD and his wife, JEANNE GARNIER lived in Moeze, Saintonge, France and were married there 14 November, 1666. They had three possibly four children. During the reign of Louis XIV, at the resinding of the Edict of Nantes, the French Huguenots (Protestants)were being persecuted, so they fled to Bristol England, and from there, the family went to New York to start a new life. In Bristol, there is a French Church still standing that has the record of the Dragaud marriages performed there during the short time of which they lived there.
GENERATION 2
01b. PIERRE JR. b. 19 Sept 1667 Moeze, Saintonge, Soubise, France and died Apr 3, 1712..
Staten Island, Richmond Co., NY. (See New Generation Below)
02b. Henri b. Abt 1669 (unsure if he belongs in this family) In more recent times,
descendants of Henri have made contact and told of their connection to Pierre and Jeanne.
03b. Jean b. 14 June 1672
Pierre Jr.(01b) married Elizabeth Tavaud, b. 22 Nov 1669 and married in Bristol England on 12 Nov. 1699. They came to New Amsterdam about 1690 and are buried in the Huguenot Buriel Ground on Staten Island, Richmond Co., New York.
Among their children are Jean (John), Mary (Maria) and Pierre III.
GENERATION 4
01c. Jean (John) b/ abt 1701 Staten Island, Richmond Co., New York.
02c. Mary (Maria) Dragoo b. Abt 1703, d. Abt 1774 Richmond Co., New York
Married: Tenuis Van Pelt
03c. PIERRE DRAGAUD III b. abt 1707 Staten Island, Richmond Co., New York. D. about
1753 Winchester, VA He married Lysbeth Guyon/Guion b. 9 Apr 1701
GENERATION 5
Children of Pierre and Lysbeth are the following:
01d. PIERRE DRAGAUD IV, Born about 1726 and married Mary Marye or is it sloppy writing
on old notes and really Marlette. A Marlett famuily lived in all communities as the
Dragoo's from Richmond Co., NY, Suffolk Co., New Jersey, Winchester, VA and even as the
last move of their son, Peter to Fayette Co., PA. The connection is a mystery, if
there is one. Peter and Mary had ten (10) children. This was a rather large family,
so I am only going to concentrate on their son, Peter born 7 June 1744 and his
children and a small portion of that family.
02d. Margaret//Marguerite Dragaud b. 03 June 1739 Staten Island d. Winchester, Frederick
CO.,VA. She married Samuel Littler. He was removed from the Quacker Church. They had
three children, Mary, Elijah and Ann Margaret.
GENERATION 6
Children of PIERRE IV and Mary: This is the point where there is a lot of confusion
and I hope to clarify the discrepancies.
01e. Isaac b. Unknown
02e. PETER DRAGOO b. 7 June 1744 d. He married Margaret McCafferty, dau of John and
Elizabeth Creidock McCafferty. Peter and Margaret were married 01 Nov 1768 in
Sussex Co., New Jersey. They had possibly five children, but not proven. There are
no records or information available as to where they died or were buried. There were
many people at this time period who were taken captive or killed by Indians and two
of their son, Peter and Frederick were taken captive, so that may be an answer as to
what happended to these individuals.
03e. William b. 1747
04e. John b. 7 Jan 1747/48
05e. Ephraim b. 1749
06e. Belteshazzar b. 14 Oct 1751 Md. Martha Butler and they had 12 children. Often records
show Frederick b. 1773 as son of this couple, but since that was only speculation and
since that possability was suggested, all 12 children of Belteshazzar have been named
and none with the name of Frederick. 1790 cens. of Springhill, Fayette co., PA gave
an un-named son that would have been Fredericks age. However, Belt's brother, Peter
also lived in area and in same census, he had a son also the age of Frederick. No
immediate sons or grandsons of Belteshazzar carried the name Frederick. Not the same
case for Peter, as there were Peter Dragoo's in the line of Frederick's descendants but
no Belteshazzars have ever shown up in Frederick's lines.
07e. Mary (Maria) b. 14 Oct 1751 (twin to Belt)
08e. Elizabeth Ann b. Abt. 1759
09e. Benjamin Franklin b. Abt 1763
10e. Ann b. Unknown
GENERATION 7
Children of Peter and Margaret.....
01f. Elizabeth- Baptised in Sussex Co., New Jersey
02f. Frederick b. 3 Apr. 1773 Berks Co., Pa. d. 14 Jun 1838 Richland Co., Ohio Captured as
a young boy by Indians and lived with them unitl a young man when he came of age. He
left the tribe and married Martha Angell bef. 1801. They had twelve children and
several were born before his service in the War 1812. Frederick's last name was often
varied between Draggoo, Dragoo and Drague (War 1812) His descendants split the spelling
between Draggoo and Dragoo, although they are from the same line.
03f. Peter (Indian Pete)taken captive at same time as Frederick. Pete married a Maumee
Indian and had sons named Antoine, Pascal and Jean Baptiste. This family spelled their
last name DRAGO
