A nurse, Ellen Denney, aged 30, died at Woodman's
Point last night, the cause of death being enteric
fever and haemorrhage. She had been at Woodman's
Point for three weeks nursing plague patients,
prior to which she had been working in the fever
ward at the Perth Hospital.

NURSE ELLEN DENNEY.
Funeral of Nurse Ellen Denney.
The funeral of the late Miss Ellen Denney, who
was employed in the Perth Public Hospital as
probationer nurse, and who died from an attack
of typhoid fever on Tuesday last, took place on
Wednesday, in the burying ground set apart for
the members of the Plymouth Brethren persuasion
in the Karrakatta Cemetery. A large number of the
members of the Perth Hospital staff followed the
cortege, amongst them being Dr. J. Thompson,
resident medical officer; Dr. G. H. S. Blackburne,
late resident physician, Mr. Neilson Hancock, -
secretary; Miss Anderson, matron, and about
twenty of the deceased's fellow nurses, who wore
the hospital uniform.
Clara Ann Elizabeth (Quayle) Denney was born in 1868 to Thomas Quayle and Catherine (Gill) Quayle. She was in a relationship with Samuel James Denney, and had children Joseph Alexander Denney and Edith Denney. Clara Denney died at age 79 years old on May 13, 1948 in Colac, Colac Otway Shire County, VIC Australia. Edward U. Denney and I were assigned to Small Arms Repair Training, Aberdeen, Maryland in 1955. Upon completion of the course, we were sent to West Germany where we were to have been Small Arms Repairmen. The two persons who were small arms repairmen weren't to leave for 90 days and the Commander of Company "C", 124 Armored Ordinance Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, 7th Army asked the two of us to help out in Ordinance Supply until the two had left. When Rodman C. Rockefeller arrived in our unit, that cinched that we would serve our full term in Ordinance Supply. 2nd Lt. Rockefeller got into an argument with a 1st Lt. and after Senator Nelson Rockefeller visited our unit, the Company Commander and the 1st Lt. were shipped out and we were stuck in Ordinance Supply.
Ed and I were the best of friends. I left the unit April 1957 and later Ed was sent early to Ft. Hood, TX due to a death in his family.
I was living in Houston, TX and I made a trip to Ft. Hood to visit with Ed. Can you guess where he was when I arrived at Ft. Hood? Why he was in Houston to visit with me.
We did later get together in 1957 and that was the last time I heard from him. I have thought of him many, many times and wondered where my old U.S. Army buddy was. Searches on the Internet turned up nothing and now in 2013, I find he passed away in 2005 at the age of 69.
While we were in Baumholder, West Germany in 1956 we took a vacation to Amsterdam, Holland together and later in 1956 we took a vacation to Paris, France. While in Paris, we decided to take the subway. We were at the station, the train pulled in and as our mother's taught us, we waited for the mass rush of humanity to board the train first, then as we stepped to enter the train, the doors closed and the train was off. We pushed and fought to get on the next train.
I surely do miss my Old Army Buddy, Edward U. Denney.
