Beckington in Somerset is a village that was built on a high steep escarpment overlooking the river Frome. As the river bends around, the village follows along the top. Nearby is a hamlet called Rudge – another Celtic word meaning a ridge. The Dainton family from Beckington farmed here at Rudge until the Second World War. Beckington name is also Celtic too meaning “Becca's” people or tribe. The 'ton' part of the name means enclosure or dwelling.
