Ruth Chumar was my auntie and quite a remarkable and gifted woman. She was placed in a NJ state institution at age 15 because she exhibited what they said was a mental illness. I was told by my late father Edward, her brother that Ruth had psychic and medium-ship abilities bordering on supernatural. He stated he had witnessed her healing two animals on two separate occasions and one young man who was suffering from lung disease. The church had much to do with her being committed and I find this and her treatment barbaric. I never met my auntie, but I have seen photos of her and my late father shared some memories of her with me when I was a child. It is sad that she was locked away and forgotten by the family and the very church that was quite insistent she be committed. I am here now to tell you that she was real, she was kind, she was blessed and she was loved. I feel I may in some small way I may be her metaphorical voice. Someone does remember Rue, and that someone is me. I have written it all down to pass on to my grandchildren.

I didn't spend much time with my dad after he remarried in 1975. His wife made sure I was kept out of his life and that is sad, as he and I had little contact. What we did have was psychologically cruel, all of my adult life he was very cruel to me in ways I care not describe. His wife also took pleasure in seeing me suffer emotionally, it was just sick and monstrous what they did. During my childhood he was a good, kind, and hard working man. He loved my mum and us and he also loved life. He had an amazing sense of humor, was a talented violinist and gifted with a wondrous tenor voice. In spite of all he was I loved my father very much and I just recently realized he may have loved me, in his own way.
