This was my mother. She was a tough but kind and wonderful person who cared about her family. She had a rough life but she never let it get her down. She built B-24 bombers during WW2 at the Willow Run bomber plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A co-worker in her carpool tried to rape her one night on the way home and she opened his face with a nail file the entire length of his jaw. She rode Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. She was a pilot. She played piano and violin. She sang professionally. She was only 5 feet tall. She was the oldest child in her family. Her dad was a Detroit City policeman and, unfortunately, a KKK member. Her mother was English and American Indian. I miss her more than I can possibly express.
Jessie Elizabeth (Childers) Strickland of Roswell, Fulton County, Georgia United States was born on July 3, 1904 in Atlanta to Edmond Davis Childers and Maggie (Carr) Childers. She had siblings Allen David Childers, Andrew William Childers, Mattie Ila Childers, Alice May Childers, and Clifford Childers. Jessie was baptized at First Baptist Roswell in Roswell. She was in a relationship with Harold Oscar Strickland, and had children Bertha Luella (Strickland) Ward, Thelma Odessa Strickland, Edwin Harold Strickland, and William Strickland. Jessie Strickland died at age 90 years old on December 1, 1994 in Roswell, and was buried circa December 3, 1994 Old Methodist Cemetery Woodstock Rd. at Alpharetta Hwy, in Roswell.
