Exactly how the so called "New England spelling" was determined we will never know for certain. Some Bushee families pronounce their name as Bushy and some as Bush eeee; our family has put an accent on it to pronounce it Bushée (boo shay) In France, the French consider it to be an English name beause of the "sh" instead of "ch" The "ch" would be more French.

It all seems to have started with the marriage of John Bushee to Rebecca Salisbury in Massachusetts in Bristol county which a few decades later would be in Rhode Island. The marriage took place in 1700
