Miss Busch was a close friend to Francis (Frank) and Martha Zettl. She took care of the 2 Zettl children after the death of their mother. Frank remarried and Lewertha went back to being a hospital nurse on the Northwest side of Chicago but remained a close family friend and was like a grandmother to all 4 of Frank's children. My mother was one of those children. Lewertha lived with us in Chicago for a year or so in 1952 and '53. She believed that the people on the TV could see her because she could see them. She would get dressed up to watch TV, especially for Liberace, her favorite performer.
I remember that the year she was with us she cleaned and dried out some of the bones from the Thanksgiving turkey. She wanted to use them to make toys for my sister and me. It didn't work out because she couldn't see well enough to string them together into the dancing skeletons that she was attempting to make (and Mom didn't want us playing with turkey bones anyway).
When her eyesight and memory got worse, Lewertha moved to a nursing home in Northern Indiana, which was closer to her siblings.
I remember her as a kind lady, generous with her love and her time.
