Byron Elliott Burke, 58, husband of Winola Bridges Burke, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Calais Regional Hospital. Byron was born July 24, 1946, in Lubec, son of Malcolm and Violet (Bryant) Burke. Byron was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major. He served on active duty for 22 years. Upon his retirement, he served as the comptroller and then manager of Calais. Byron was the administrator of the Saint Croix Regional Family Health Center in Princeton for a number of years. Byron and his son Byron Jr. started B&B Delivery Service out of Calais, which serves Washington, Hancock, and Penobscot Counties. Surviving are his wife of 37 years and his two sons, Byron Jr. and his wife, Abygail and Douglas Norman and his wife, Brandii; nine grandchildren, Samuel, BJ, Shep, Rachel, Grace, Carsen, Katlyn, Peter and Darian; his brothers, Malcolm, Franklin, David and his wife, Ginny, John, Doug and his wife, Joyce, and Bruce; a sister, June; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, Ralph, Sidney and Donald; and a sister-in-law, Iva.

Paula Florence "Ticky" Burke was born to Gilbert Madison "Bud" Burke (1917 - 1988) and Marie Amelia Cecelia Jawesh (1921 - 2007). Both of her parents were born in the state of New York.
On September 29, 1976, "Ticky", age 12, hitchhiked to her father's diner in Canastota, New York. She was with a nineteen year old friend, Teri Fuller. Ticky and Teri arrived at the diner safely and when they left, they planned to hitchhike back to their homes in Chittenango, New York. They never arrived at home.
Their fully clothed bodies were later found by a hunter in Eaton New York. Both girls had been shot. See Autopsy shows gunshots killed 2 youths.
As of May, 2021, the case of the girls' abduction and murder is stilled unsolved, although police have a suspect, who is linked to two other killings of young women. The suspect died in 2009. See Who killed Central New York woman in 1973 remains a mystery.
Organized Crime Figure. Known as "Jimmy the Gent", he was immortalized in the Martin Scorcese gangster film "Goodfellas". He was one of New York City's most successful and revered organized criminals who went down in the annals of crime as the architect of the notorious 1978 Lufthansa heist, which looted New York's JFK airport of over $5.8 million in untraceable currency. On December 11th, 1978, just before dawn, a gang of seven men (identified as Angelo Sepe, Joe Manri, "Frenchy" McMahon, Thomas DeSimone, Louis Cafora, Paul LiCastri and Parnell "Stacks" Edwards) carried out a daring robbery at the Lufthansa Air Cargo Terminal at Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York. Their prize was eight million dollars in cash, unmounted jewels of undetermined value, foreign currency and gold. No one was ever convicted for this crime. None of the stolen goods were ever recovered and at least thirteen people connected to the crime were murdered or disappeared, missing presumed dead. Jimmy Burke was convicted of a point-shaving scheme for basketball games in 1981. He was also convicted of murder on February 19, 1985, after an associate of his crew named Henry Hill testified against him and joined the Witness Protection Program. Burke had a 20-to-life sentence tacked on to the original 12 years of the federal sentence he was given on the point-shaving conviction. In 1996 he died of stomach cancer in a Buffalo hospital after being transferred there from the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, New York.

I am searching for any information out there on a Bessie Burke. I know that she was born about 1874..during a census, her son's entry they listed parents place of birth and hers said Wi or England. She married James Patrick Sullivan 1/1899 It was her 2nd marriage. Bessie and James Patrick had a son James Fitz born 3/24/1901. After James Patrick died in 1906, a flood swept through their town of Ontario Wisconsin and Bessie took the children to Fort Dodge Iowa.

Finally after over 2 years of searching I have found some descendants of John Francis Burke....though am still looking for other members including descendants of his brother Patrick Burke and also of Elizabeth Ellen Fetherston (Burke)

Am looking for any information on a Patrick or John Burke who emigrated to America.....the information I have so far is as follows -
According to the 1881 census their father's name was Patrick.....born 1833 in Galway Ireland....their mother Elizabeth was born 1834 in Henley on Thames England....the children born to Elizabeth and Patrick were -
PATRICK born 1964 in Wordsley Staffordshire
JOHN born 1865 in Wordsley Staffordshire
Elizabeth born 1870 in Wordsley Staffordshire
Thomas born 1874 in Warrington Cheshire
James born 1876 in Warrington Cheshire (this is my great grandfather)
The dates of birth are calculated by their ages shown on the 1881 census....Patrick and John worked their passage to America in their early teens circs 1882......both were forge labourers and we believe one or maybe even both became iron bridge builders. I know that both married and had around ten children each. The only names we have are of three of John's children.....Elizabeth Ellen/ Ethel and Francis. I know that Elizabeth Ellen married and Edward J Fetherston as she kept in contact with my mum Winifred during WW2. The last known addresses I have of ELIZABETH ELLEN FETHERSTON (NEE BURKE) are as follows :-
1315 Atlantic Ave Atlantic City NJ around 1947
122N Brighton Ave Atlantic City NJ around 1950
Edward Fetherston died on the 3rd May 1950...further investigation has shown an SSDI entry for Elizabeth showing date of birth as 1914...social security number and place of issue as NJ and death in 1974 in VA but this is not confirmed. There is also an unconfirmed naturalisation entry for John Burke in Greene County MO in 1882.....one of the above photos of Elizabeth was taken in a photo studio in St Louis MO which fits in with the naturalisation entry for John Burke.
I am having no luck tracing anyone connected to these people so far.
If anyone has any information regarding these people or their descendants please email me below.

Patrick Burke immigrated/or became a citizen in 1866. He was married to Bridget (McGuire) (sp?) and living in Pennsylvania by 1875 when his son John was born. He later moved to California where his second son Henry Joseph was born in 1879. I acquired this information from local census records, and I have more questions than answers at this point. I am related to his 4th child, a daughter named Mary L. Burke who married a Wesley Orth Kimberling in Stockton CA in 1903.
