Dorothy BERRY MARTIN
I have in my possession an old studio portrait photograph of Dorothy BERRY MARTIN who was the oldest daughter of Roy BERRY. The photograph was taken in the 1900's with Dorothy likely less than one year old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Dorothy and her family:
Dorothy Letta BERRY was b. 22 May 1911 in Union or Russellville, IN to parents Roy Otha or Oather or Oathes BERRY (1890-1962) and Nellie Jane SMILEY (1891-1945). Dorothy was one of four children born to this couple including Dorothy Letta; Mary Elizabeth; Sussanna or Susanna; and William “Billie” Joseph BERRY, all born between 1911 and 1932. Dorothy married John Cleon MARTIN (1913-1984) on 7 Dec 1935 in Terre Haute, IN, and they had three children including Dale Cleon; Donna Lou; and Betty Joan MARTIN.
Dorothy died 23 May 2014 in Greencastle, IN and is buried in the Portland Mills Cemetery in Hollandsburg, IN.
I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this precious old treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.

He met and married the late Alva Jeanne Hines (Statesville, North Carolina) in 1952. They settled in Ellicott City, Maryland and reared two children. In 1973, the family moved to Statesville, North Carolina and after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, he passed away in 1993.
He was a quiet man with a great sense of humor. When I told him I was going to take French in the 6th grade, he asked me if I knew how to say 'Cut the grass' in French. When I told him that I didn't, he replied 'Mow the lawn.' On my first day in Madame Weems class, she asked if anyone knew any French. My hand shot straight up into the air.
I bragged that I knew how to say 'Cut the grass" She asked "Well, how do you say it?"
"Mow the lawn!", I said. She (and the class) burst into laughter as I felt my face redden!
Needless to say, I had some words for my father when he got home from work. He just smiled and said: "Well, that's what they always told me!"
