Her parents were George Luda Avant (died 1950) and Sadie Marie Craven Avant(9/19/08 to 05/12/98).
She married Eugene ("Gene") Troy Nichols in 1941, Clay County, Florida, and again in Fayette County, Alabama on July 30, 1945. Gene was in the US Army, stationed in Elgin, Texas at an Army Base that is now called Camp Swift. In 1942, during the war, it was a huge base for training, etc.
Gene and Verdine had three children:
Mary Gene Nichols born 12/19/42, Elgin, Texas
Harry Gene Nichols born 08/23/44, Palatka, Florida
Thomas Avant Nichols Brewer born 05/16/46, Palatka, Florida
After Gene and Verdine divorced, she left their children behind and married Walker Addison Wynn, a Greyhound Bus driver out of Columbia, South Carolina (deceased 01/01/52) and had two children:
Rita Darlene Wynn born 5/10/51
Don Walker Wynn born,1959 deceased
Walker Addison Wynn was shot and killed in a bar on 1/1/52 at the age of 27. Verdine apparently took the insurance money and left her children behind.
She then married Edgar Roy Moss around 1953, a man in the US Army from Virginia. Verdine and Edgar applied for a marriage license May 15, 1952 in Columbia, South Carolina. We have been told she may have had at least two more children.
