Arena and Engartha Phelps
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Arena and Engartha PHELPS which was taken at the Cunningham Studio in Gouverneur, NY in the 1890's. Both girls appear to be in their teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Arena and Engartha:
Engartha and Arena were the daughters of John Hartwell PHELPS (b. abt 1850 and died 1908 in Tupper Lake, NY) and Julia A. VANATTER (b. 1854 in Gouverneur, NY and died 1921). Engartha L. PHELPS was b. abt 1876 in DeKalb, NY and died 23 Jan 1928 in St. Petersburg, FL and is buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Tupper Lake, NY and her sister Arena L. PHELPS was b. 1878 in DeKalb, NY. Arena married Charles H. ASHLEY and she died in 1926 and is buried in the Lakeview Cemetery in Tupper Lake, NY.
