He was a tool and die maker in the U.S. Navy, at the Philadelphia Navy yard. He lived in Willow Grove and was a member of the Willow Grove United Methodist Church. He was fire chief and fire marshal in Willow Grove for several years. He was a life member of the Keystone State Fire Chiefs Association and he received the Legion of Honor membership from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in 1981. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by three brothers, Joseph F Akers, Charles Neil Akers, and Keith Daly Akers.
