William Randolph Hearst, full-length portrait, facing front, seated with legs crossed. William Randolph Hearst took charge of his father's paper, the San Francisco Examiner in 1886 when he was 23. In 1895, he acquired the New York Morning Journal. Hearst was instrumental in the development of what became known as yellow journalism.
