I have seen a few in my families albums like this. The young woman's face was scratched out of all photos from childhood to adulthood. The story goes that her husband left her for another woman. She was so devoted to him she packed up their three young sons, a newborn, a one-year old and a two year old. It was winter and she drove to the mountains late at night. She laid down with the children in the back seat holding them with the heat on high. They all died of carbon monoxide poisoning. It was deemed a suicide. Her name was to never be mentioned. After searching I believe her name was Cornelia. She was the daughter of my great aunt Cordelia. The other daughter Vivianne is in many pictures with her but her face is not scratched out. It was common to never speak of and remove all evidence of a person who committed suicide.
