Is it a hate or a ribbon? I ask because I recently watched a movie set in that era and the young girls wore huge ribbons on their heads.

And because many of the clothes were sewn at home they probably had lengths of matching material to hem and make matching head ribbons.

If you look at back of young lady's head, her hair is in a braided bun or something & she has a wide cloth wrapped around her head, under her hair with a bow on top~front. She's a character! Because not just anybody would wear this! :))

That's not a hat really.
It's a large ribbon. That's her hair on top. I just had an interesting thought, I wonder what all of the people in these wonderfull photos would think if they knew how interested we are in them a hundred years or more into their future.

In Edwardian times 1901-1910 it was fashionable for girls and young ladies to wear large fluffy bows. Younger girls often had their hair down, older girls would often have an up do like this braided bun.

It's a gym outfit. The middy collar and neck shape are typical, and they often wore a ribbon bandeau to hold their hairstyle together during exercise.

A quick glance and it could be Charlize Theron.
No, definitely not a maid. The bows were for well to do schoolgirls. Maids wore caps.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
