Lilly and Sol Baum
This is a photo of my dad, Sol Baum, age 10, with his older half-sister, Lilly Baum Broza, daughter of his mother (my grandmother) and her first husband. Lilly was born in Austria, I believe, and was left there with HER grandmother for a few years, while her mother (my grandmother, Fannie Apfelbaum), came to New York. There, Fannie met and married my grandfather Abraham (who also had been married before), They had one daughter, named after my great-grandmother, Devora. This little girl, Deborah, died at a young age. My middle name, Diane, is to honor her. (As her name, Deborah, was to honor Devora). My father was born a few years after Deborah died.

I think you mean "hand-colored" which is a painting process using colored inks. "Colorizing" is when one uses a computer to add color to black & white photos.
I colorized this using Photoshop!

It's quite possible lolly was left-handed. Notice that her watch is on the right arm, which is where left-handed people wear it.

So pretty
Susan Werntz Gorton--you are very observant! Lilly might very well have been left-handed, as was her brother, Sol, in the photo, who was my dad! I can't believe I never noticed this before!
I am having trouble replying to people who commented on the photo. A rectangle appears asking me to give permission to send a reply, but no matter how many times I click, it won't let me.!
I can't seem to reply to individual comments here, and I don't know why! There is a box that appears which states "Give Permission to publish?" and I clicked on the box many times but it doesn't seem to work!

Love Her Dress...That Would Fit Right In To Our Fashion Today!!! :D
Wasn't Baum the one who wrote the Wizard of Oz? He lived in South Dakota for some time. If I remember correctly, he was editing a newspaper there.
L. Frank Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz, and lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was also known to support genocide of the American Indians - maybe an attitude that came out of his fears of violent characters. Most Europeans in the U.S. had a gross misunderstanding of the Indians - fed by those who wrote for and sold penny books. Anything sensational about the west sold like hot cakes. Check out Baum's biography at this link. He was from New York, b. in 1856. He may have encouraged other family members to come over. That's usually the way it happened.
My parents,Sol & Helen Baum, at their wedding, February 2nd, 1946.
My mother,m on the left, 50 years later, with me, her daughter, Susan.
My Dad, Sol, with me 50 years later!

Look at this beautiful picture..look at the detail..necklace, watch, dress, shoes, hair, and the little boy is equally beautifully dressed..understand, this was rare back in the day unless wealth was part of life.
