I was raised in the Lutheran Church (Immanuel) and I did a Summer of Bible Study then was confirmed and did a dissertation.. only then could I take Communion.. I was 13 when it began.. probably 15 when I was actually confirmed...

Speaking as a Catholic priest, this is definitely a 1st Communion photo. Look at the photo on the table, Jesus is giving a little boy communion. From the birth and death dates, I wouild say the young man is about 7 years old which means it would have been taken around 1968 and given his name, I would presume he was Polish. Some Polish folks still do 1st Communion this way. Lovely photo!!
