You are right Brennan. My husbands family lived in KY. Five brothers fought in the Civil War, all came back alive. I find that amazing.

My mother's grandfather was in the Yankee group that killed my father's Confederate great-grandfather, too old to fight, but who blew up the railroad on the north side of the Tennesse River that supplied the Yankees. Genealogy is fascinating.

The eyes make him appear so life-like. My gg-grandfather, William Lynn, fought for the north...would love to have a picture of him. I did send for his Pension Records and they answered many questions I had about him. Highly recommend it!

Wish I could find a pic of my great, great, great grandfather who fought in the confederate army. Silas Overstreet, taken prisoner by Union forces, and released at the end of the war . He carried a paper declaring this this the rest of his life.

priceless photo. I hope the family has it in their possession. The single bar on his collar indicates he was a lieutenant. The double breasted tunic was not too common. There were some Tennessee Federal sympathizers in the Northeast corner of Tennessee. Most of the State was staunchly Confederate.
2nd Great Grandpa Joshua Tilson was a private in the Union Army Calvary in 1863-1865. My sister has possession of this photo.

Joel Tilson - are you also aware that Joshua Tilson was a direct descendant of a number of Mayflower passengers?

His pedigree:

John Tilson (1788-1855)
Yes, I have the Tilson Grist Mill book which details the genealogy of the Tilson family. Grandpa Joshua Tilson is a descendant of numerous members of the original Mayflower settlers. Most notably John Alden and William Brewster. I have a account with ancestry which has Edmond Tilson and family leaving Wiltshire, England in 1628 to live in America at the Mayflower settlement.
Oops. Ancientfaces.com deleted the entire pedigree I typed up and posted.
