Ida Wilson, 1896 OK - is that a feather in her hair?
could be petals in the hair to match the collar, there is a lighter area in the hair to the right that might be a second feather/petal .

Making her face the "flower"? That would be neat!

Here's an intriguing possibility. Maybe she was an actress playing a "Pan" role. Note the rather boyish hairstyle. Pic too early to be "Peter Pan" which was written in 1906. I highlighted the pic and I agree with Helen D'All that there is a feather/petal on the left side of her head (darker area)

The earliest actresses to play the role of Peter Pan usually wore a white collar of a certain shape--hence the "Peter Pan collar". They wore a feather in their caps.

This looks like a photo I have of my gr-grandparents from about the same period. Details (like her collar) appear to have been added to the photo.

I think this may be a theatrical costume, not an everyday outfit.

Could also be a hairpin that had feathers attached to it, and she put her hair in a bun at the back of her head, using the hairclip to fasten the hair more properly.

Or even some sort of hairband/headband with petals/feathers on it.
