Of course they were posed due to technology limitations. Posed in this context meant added items or attitudes to "jazz" up the picture to the point that it looks fake and non-representative of the era. It could have been made today.
Russell Casey, these guys look like the fellows I know who are 'real' . They act goofy, especially when tired. Fashion critic ? These guys did not make a lot of money and if it was half way clean they wore it ;-) Believe me, this is a nice shot of another place and time.
Clothes are not the issue. IMO it is the set up attitudes. Looks like they were coached. Even so, it is a nice picture. Just does not represent anything historical as some comments seem to imply..
I don't know where you're getting that from, Russell.. it looks fine to me.. remember in this day and time, photography was a big thing.. not the blase, done-a-million-times-a-day thing it is today.. it looks legit to me.. I just don't see what you think is made up about it
