What did your grandfathers do during WW1 - and what are these men doing?
Both my grandfathers were in their 40s by the time WWI was in progress, and my paternal grandfather was mostly deaf, so he would have been rejected anyway.

My dad was only 13 when that war began and 17 when it ended. But, even if he wanted to join at 16 or 17, he was the eldest in a large family and their sole support. And he was not yet a citizen. He couldn't apply for US citizenship until he was 21.

Great grandfather was apart of WWI AND WWII! I forget precisely what he did but afterward he was a carpenter, built his own home on Gerling st in Schenectady, and also worked at GE. He came to America from Italy in 1903. My great Grandpa was a badass 💙
