Oh, my! Wouldn't Mark Twain have loved THEIR stories!
If they were anything close to my three younger (can't say baby anymore) brothers, they were little hellions. Hopefully they were lucky like mine and had an older sister to keep them in line

From info in the US Census in 1870, son Charles would have been 11 in 1865, with brother George being 8 and brother Robert 6. Though there was a 3 year old sister and another girl born before the end of 1865, I like that just the 3 boys were selected for this wonderful group picture.

The one in the overalls is the ringleader and trailblazer, the kneeling one is the easily-swayed one who follows his lead and the one in jacket is Mother's Good Boy who is smart about playing both sides. :) A dangerous combination!
