Beautiful Celebrity Photo
2/8/12 Update:
Thanks to everyone's help, we believe we have identified this woman as being Virginia Bruce. While Claudette Colbert was a possible match, the photo that Judy contributed ( ) shows a striking similarity.

Virginia Bruce, born Helen Virginia Briggs, (September 29th, 1910 - February 24th, 1982) was an American actress who was featured in many films during the 1930's-40's, including "The Bad Man of Brimstone", "Society Lawyer", "The Invisible Woman", "Pardon My Sarong" and others.

Original Post:
This photo is of an absolutely beautiful celebrity. I do not know the name of this woman or have any other details outside that the photo looks to have been a celebrity photograph.

Can someone help provide details about this celebrity photo?

I picked this photo up in an antique shop in San Jose / Santa Clara California.

Who is this celebrity? Do you know when this celebrity photo was likely taken?
Date & Place: in USA

It looks to be the early 1940's or perhaps 1930's. I asked Mom since she should know - she can't remember. But she looks like a familiar star of that time. Anyone have an idea?
It looks like Marlene Dietrich to me.
I think it's claudette colbert
It could be Claudette Colbert but I don't think the eyes are Marlene Dietrich...she had kind of bedroom eyes
Claudette Colbert
Definitely Claudette Colbert
It looks more like constance bennett to me . . . look at google.com images and let me know what you think?
I was just watching Oprah who had Shirley MacLaine on there, and Shirley flashed a picture of a dancer who looks like the photo. She was Vera Zorina. Google that name.
There is a similarity but the eyes look different to me? This is driving me crazy - someone should know??
check out this photo of Claudette
IDK, I think her eyebrows look too natural and short in length to be Claudette Colbert who wore hers a bit more exaggerated. If I can think or find anyone that it might be, I will let you know. :)
It's not Detrich, and I was for Colbert till I read Kathy's post..Detrich's face is narrower, Colbert has much more cheekbone..I'm for Bennett.
I added a photo of Joan Bennett and one of Constance Bennett to AncientFaces' Facebook page. The problem with this photo is her false eyelashes - they make her eyes look like they are slanted down and I don't think they are. It would help if we could hone in on the year - my guess would be late 30's to early 40's?
Veronica Lake?
I think it is Virginia Bruce
The make up hair and the cut of the dress says mid 40's Kathy.
Maria Montez?
Virginia Bruce is a definite possibility - since Arba says this is mid 40's, I'm posting a photo of Virginia Bruce in 1948 on Facebook AF. See what you all think??
Thanks everyone for your help!! I'm going to say that this is Virginia Bruce thanks to this photo that Judy added to facebook. It looks spot on to me.
I found a picture of Virginia Bruce in a similar pose and I cut half of her head off and layered it over THIS image and it fit PERFECTLY! What do you think:
Well Mimi besides being impressed with your photoshop skills (haha) I think we got a match with Virginia Bruce! Well done!!
Mimi: That is amazing and a little eerie :D
LMAO I didn't use photoshop. I used Photobucket to do it...just did a quicky layer and erase and it fit...haha
The image of her that I used was from Ebay:
It actually looks like Marlene Dietrich to me
Huh...yah you're right. The eyebrows in particular stand out to me.
